The British Museum - Compass
Compass from the British Museum has information on 5000 objects displayed in museums around the museum.   Alfred the Lion will help children around the site which contains an especially good family section. 

Digital Michelangelo Project
Have a look at the Digital Michelangelo Project where staff, and students from 2 American Universities spent a year in Italy scanning the sculptures and architecture of Michelangelo, with amazing results.  Quite a wordy site but scroll down to see the processes used in photographs and video. 

Van Gogh at Etten
Van Gogh at Etten - Sketches and Billboards". This site is about the famous artist Vincent van Gogh, especially about the time he lived in Etten, a small village in the south of The Netherlands, where he started his career as an artist.  Try the puzzles in the ‘Interactive’ section (you need to enable pop ups).  Excellent site for researchers and teachers.

Himalayan Art Resources
Beautiful, sacred Himalayan Art Resources galore can be found here! This fabulous online museum is nicely categorised into paintings, sculpture and textiles and has a good kids section but is not always easy to navigate.  Once your away from the home page, it can be difficult to find your way around (use the logo on the top left of the screen to get ‘home’).  Persevere - its worth it!

1200 years of Italian Sculpture
1200 years of Italian Sculpture is exactly what it says. Don't forget to click on the Union Jack in the bottom left corner, to translate to English.

The British Library
Learning at the BL has some fasctinating sections that will keep you occupied for ages. Try the Mapping History link for an amazing look at the stories behind the maps.
